A sophisticated fraud case in the Swiss canton of Schwyz has resulted in losses of approximately CHF 250,000 for one victim. The cantonal police report that scammers contact victims by phone, posing as bank employees, and persuade them to install software allegedly described as antivirus protection. In reality, the program grants the scammers direct access to the victims’ computers and bank accounts, which are often drained down to just a few francs.

Police advice:

  • Do not install software suggested by unknown individuals.
  • Never share login or banking credentials.
  • If you are suspicious, end the call immediately and contact your bank through official channels.
  • Report any suspected fraud to the police without delay.

Police are investigating the case and warning residents about a growing number of similar scams.
