Dramatic footage from a passenger train struck by a Russian drone in the Kharkiv region yesterday shows a burnt carriage while several passengers, including a woman carrying a baby, are assisted to a nearby forested area.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that 18 people were in the carriage at the time and that there was “no military justification” for targeting civilians.

At least five people were killed and around 200 passengers were on the train, which was operating on the Barvinkove–Lviv–Chop route, officials reported, according to Telegrafi.

The logo on the carriage seen in the footage indicates that the train belongs to Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state railway. The exact location where the train stopped remains unclear, showing some passengers disembarking and walking through the snow away from the tracks.

Russia has not commented on the attack, though drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy and transport infrastructure have intensified recently.
