Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reacts to the Arrest of Mitehat Llozhani by Serbia; Verbal Notes Sent to Allied Missions in Belgrade

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has reported the arrest of Kosovar citizen Mitehat Llozhani by Serbian authorities. Through a press release, the MFA has called for international engagement regarding this case.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora announces that, immediately after receiving information about the arrest of the citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, Mitehat Llozhani, who was detained upon entering Serbia at the Batrovci border crossing with Croatia, all institutional actions have been undertaken,” the statement reads.

The MFA noted that the Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo in Serbia submitted an official request to the Liaison Office of Serbia in Kosovo, asking for confirmation of the arrest, clarification of the specific reasons for the detention, and any other relevant information for further handling of the case.

Additionally, the MFA confirmed that the Liaison Office in Serbia has informed the European Union Delegation in Serbia about the case and sent verbal notes to the diplomatic missions of the Quint countries accredited in Serbia, aiming to ensure international partners’ engagement in protecting the rights and security of the Kosovar citizen.

“The Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in Serbia, Mr. Jetish Jashari, is in continuous contact with the family of the detainee and, through the Liaison Office, will proceed with submitting an official request for visitation rights for Mr. Llozhani,” the MFA stated.

Through this announcement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora calls on the international community to increase pressure on Serbian authorities, as the practice of arresting Kosovar citizens continues.
