Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has warned that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, in coordination with the Russian state, is preparing new threats against Kosovo.

In a Facebook post, Kurti stated that even 25 years after the genocide in Kosovo—with 186 massacres, around 500 mass graves in Kosovo, and 5 mass graves in Serbia where over 13,000 people were killed—the Serbian state continues to hide information about at least 11 mass graves within its territory.

Kurti further noted that instead of Serbia expressing remorse, seeking forgiveness, and paying reparations, it is doing the opposite.

“… Serbia has chosen the opposite path, repeating threats and ultimatums against Kosovo and its citizens, in close cooperation and coordination with Russia. The horrific crimes Serbia committed in Kosovo 25 years ago are being repeated by Russia in Ukraine, and there are attempts to bring them back to the Balkan region.

Serbia’s approach toward Kosovo is deeply disappointing. First, impunity was normalized, followed by propaganda campaigns. Now, there are attempts to normalize paramilitary and terrorist attacks (Banjska, September 24, 2023), threats, and ultimatums, all justified with false news and disinformation campaigns, right before the eyes of the democratic world,” Kurti wrote, as reported by “Bota sot.”

Complete post:

Vučić, in coordination with Russia, is preparing new threats and ultimatums against Kosovo, all while standing on mass graves.

25 years after the genocide in Kosovo, with 186 massacres, around 500 mass graves in Kosovo, 5 mass graves in Serbia where over 13,000 people were killed (1,392 children, 1,739 women, 1,882 elderly), around 20,000 women and girls raped and abused, tens of thousands of persecuted citizens, over 860,000 displaced from Kosovo, and hundreds of thousands more who watched from the mountains as their homes were looted and burned (a total of 119,855 homes), and with 1,595 people still missing by force, hundreds of families living in anxiety and pain, while Serbia continues to hide information about at least 11 mass graves within its territory, Serbia—led by Milosevic’s minister—is preparing new threats and ultimatums toward Kosovo, in collaboration with Russia.

Serbia sleeps on the mass graves resulting from the genocide committed in Kosovo. 950 unarmed civilians were massacred, their bodies taken and buried in mass graves in Serbia, including refrigerated trucks that were found at the bottom of lakes there. The evidence of genocide is fresh all over Kosovo and Serbia, but this does not stop the President of Serbia from issuing new threats.

Instead of Serbia:

  • Repenting for the crimes, apologizing for them, and not denying them;
  • Opening the war archives of the Yugoslav police and military, especially the 37th Motorized Brigade;
  • Paying reparations;
  • Cooperating to deliver justice for the victims of genocide;
  • Committing to reconciliation and peace by reflecting on its responsibility,

Serbia has chosen the opposite path, repeating threats and ultimatums against Kosovo and its citizens, in close cooperation and coordination with Russia. The horrific crimes that Serbia committed in Kosovo 25 years ago are now being repeated by Russia in Ukraine, with attempts to revive them in the Balkan region.

Serbia’s current approach to Kosovo is deeply troubling. First, impunity was normalized, along with propaganda campaigns. Now, there are attempts to normalize paramilitary and terrorist attacks (Banjska, September 24, 2023), threats, and ultimatums, which are justified with fake news and disinformation campaigns, before the eyes of the democratic world.

Today, Kosovo is stronger than ever before, and it is not intimidated by threats. We protect all our citizens and their rights and freedoms, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, as well as the democratic and socio-economic progress of our people and institutions.

However, what is happening now shows how far Serbia is from democratic and human values and how deeply it remains entrenched in the genocide it committed in the 1990s.
