The Kosovo Police have detained a Serbian individual who is accused of war crimes.

The Kosovo Police, specifically the Directorate for Investigation of War Crimes, after several months of investigative work on June 20, 2024, filed a criminal complaint with the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo under reasonable suspicion that the suspect with the initials (S.L.) acting individually and in collaboration committed the criminal offense of “War Crimes against the civilian population” during the war in Kosovo, in the region of Gjakova (1998/1999). Recent consultations with the prosecutor of the case have resulted in the assessment that further investigative actions should be directed towards ensuring the presence of the accused in this criminal case, said the police.

This arrest highlights the commitment of the Kosovo Police to investigate and prosecute individuals suspected of committing war crimes, regardless of their nationality. The cooperation between the Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecutor’s Office demonstrates the dedication to ensuring justice and accountability for crimes committed during the conflict in Kosovo. The thorough investigative work carried out by the Directorate for Investigation of War Crimes showcases the efforts to bring perpetrators to justice and uphold the rule of law in Kosovo.
