On the 23rd day of the ongoing protest, former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj stated that he had been authorized by the protest coordination group to read a declaration on behalf of the organizers and demonstrators.
Addressing both those present and citizens who, according to him, support the protest from afar, Goxhaj said that the coordination group, after hearing public proposals over 22 days of demonstrations, had issued a statement clarifying the movement’s goals and demands.
Declaration by Citizen Dritan Goxhaj, Former KLA Fighter
“Greetings fellow citizens, compatriots, and fellow protesters. Today I have been authorized by the protest coordination group to read a declaration on their behalf.
On behalf of the coordination group of the protest, after listening to the proposals of the sovereign people for 22 consecutive days, we come before you today with this statement to clarify to protesters and all compatriots—whether physically present or supporting us in spirit—that this nationwide and peaceful protest demands the following:
- The unconditional resignation of the Prime Minister and the government.
- The establishment of a transitional technical government, non-partisan, with a 12-month mandate.
- Constitutional changes ensuring equality of all citizens before the law, as well as their approval through a popular referendum. This includes amendments to the Electoral Code, changes to political party financing laws, and limiting the tenure of the Prime Minister to no more than two full or partial terms in a lifetime.
- In parallel, we reaffirm our initial demands: repeal of amendments to the Law on Protected Areas, repeal of changes to the Cultural Heritage Law, abolition of the Mountain Pact, and repeal of the legal framework for strategic investments.
- A new social contract between citizens and the state, to be drafted after consultations with intellectuals, technical experts, and non-partisan citizens proposed from the protest square.
These are our clear, legitimate, and non-negotiable demands, arising from the voice of the citizens and the will of the sovereign people. We remain committed to a peaceful, democratic, and civic protest until these demands are fulfilled. Albania belongs to its people, not to those in power.”
This concluded the statement delivered by Dritan Goxhaj.
