Lionel Messi has made history by becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.
He reached a total of 17 World Cup goals after scoring for Argentina against Austria.
Earlier in the tournament, Messi scored a hat-trick against Algeria, equaling the record previously held by Germany’s Miroslav Klose for the most goals scored in World Cup history.
With his goal against Austria, Messi surpassed that record and set a new benchmark with 17 World Cup goals.
The goal came in the 38th minute, when Messi scored a superb strike to give Argentina a 1–0 lead.
