All the accused in the case of the “coup” on the day of the parliamentary elections in Montenegro in 2016, were declared innocent by the decision of the Supreme Court in Podgorica.
The decision was taken by a panel of judge Zoran Radović.
“There was no evidence that the accused were guilty of the crimes they were charged with, so they are acquitted,” said Radović.
The decision acquitted Russian citizens Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov, accused of organizing and financing the violent change of Government in Montenegro.
Also released were the leaders of the pro-Russian Democratic Front, Andrija Mandić – the current Speaker of the Assembly of Montenegro – and MPs Millan Knezhević and Mihajllo Çagjenović, then the retired general of the Serbian Gendarmerie, Bratislav Dikiq, as well as seven other Serbian citizens, arrested on election day in 2016.
