At least 40 Palestinians were killed on Friday following Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, according to local authorities. The majority of the casualties were reported in Gaza City, where many residents refuse to evacuate despite orders, saying they have no safe place to go.
“The explosions never stopped since yesterday,” said Adel, a 60-year-old resident of Gaza City, living near the Beach refugee camp. He declined to give his full name for security reasons, Reuters reported.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that at least 15 homes inside the camp were struck, while the Israeli military reportedly called other residents warning that their homes would also be targeted. Families were seen rushing to escape.
Medical sources reported that 14 civilians were killed in a single strike on a house in the Al-Tuwam area, in the northern part of Gaza City.
Meanwhile, several deadly strikes also hit targets in the southern Gaza Strip, where many displaced residents were seeking refuge after fleeing bombardments in Gaza City.
