Belgium continues to be a steadfast supporter of Kosovo’s European and transatlantic integration, reaffirmed Belgian Ambassador to Kosovo, Gregoire Cuvelier, during a reception marking King’s Day.

Speaking at the event, Cuvelier highlighted the longstanding bilateral cooperation between Belgium and Kosovo, particularly in the fight against organized crime. He noted that Belgium recognized Kosovo’s independence rapidly, on 24 February 2008, and has since supported its journey toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Belgium has been an unwavering supporter of Kosovo in its Euro-Atlantic integration. Our cooperation spans multiple areas, especially organized crime, where Belgian authorities work closely with Kosovo’s justice, interior, police, and judicial institutions,” said Cuvelier.

The Ambassador also acknowledged the role of Belgian officers involved in the European APEC project, which strengthens collaborative efforts in law enforcement and judicial reform.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti underscored the shared democratic values between Kosovo and Belgium, describing the bilateral relationship as balanced, constructive, and rooted in a common European destiny.

“Belgium stood by Kosovo in critical moments, from peaceful resistance against oppression in the 1990s to the 1998–1999 liberation struggle. Since recognizing our independence in 2008, Belgium has been a key supporter of our sovereignty, reconstruction, and Euro-Atlantic integration,” Kurti emphasized.

The reception also hosted Kosovo Assembly Speaker Dimal Basha, senior political officials, and accredited diplomats. Guests were offered the opportunity to enjoy Belgian beer, renowned for its quality and centuries-old tradition.

Belgium’s continued support highlights the strong diplomatic and practical cooperation that reinforces Kosovo’s path toward European integration and regional stability.
