Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Council of Ministers has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated Western Balkans and European Union (EU) leaders’ summit, originally scheduled for December 4-5 in Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The announcement was confirmed to Radio Free Europe by Zukan Helez, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The summit has been canceled because the tender for organizing the event failed. There was a complaint against those who were initially deemed the best bidders,” Helez explained.
He added that a new tender for organizing the summit would be launched “immediately” and suggested that the event may take place in January next year instead.
This summit was set to bring together key leaders from the region and the EU, aiming to strengthen cooperation and address important political, economic, and social issues.
Although not officially confirmed, the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina indicated that Marta Kos, who will officially take over as the EU Commissioner for Enlargement on December 1, was expected to attend. This would have marked one of her first official visits.
