Technical testing on the Iber Bridge in Mitrovica was carried out on Tuesday, but the caretaker Government of Kosovo has stated it was not informed in advance about who was responsible for executing the operation.
Two days after the tests, it has been confirmed that the work was conducted by personnel from a private company contracted by the European Union.
“The personnel involved in the technical testing of the Mitrovica Bridge are from a private company contracted by the European Union,” KFOR confirmed in a statement to local media.
The tests involved a large number of workers, heavy trucks, and various technical equipment, raising public and political interest due to the sensitive symbolism of the Iber Bridge, which divides northern and southern Mitrovica.
While the EU has not yet provided a formal statement, the move has sparked questions about coordination and transparency, especially in light of ongoing tensions in the region and the bridge’s role as a symbol of division — and potential reconciliation — in Kosovo.
