Opposition parties in Kosovo have yet to reach a consensus on a possible cooperation for forming a government, should the winning party, Vetëvendosje (VV), fail to do so.
The opposition has not yet harmonized its positions on whether a parliamentary majority will emerge if necessary. The position of the Prime Minister has become a point of contention between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
Blerta Deliu, a PDK deputy, stated that the position of Prime Minister belongs to the second-largest party in the event that VV fails to form a government.
“Absolutely, we have stated this for a while now, not only PDK but as per the order of the electoral process. PDK won enough mandates to request the position of Prime Minister if there is no government formed by the party with the most mandates. These discussions are ongoing among PDK actors, with Chairman Memli Krasniqi and Prime Minister candidate Bedri Hamza meeting with representatives of the opposition to align our positions. This remains to be seen as the process unfolds,” Deliu said in an interview with RTV21.
