Denmark has stressed the importance of continued dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, calling on both countries to honour their commitments and advance European integration as a means of ensuring long-term peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

Speaking at the United Nations, Denmark’s representative said the European Union-facilitated dialogue remained the main framework for resolving outstanding issues between Prishtina and Belgrade. She emphasised that progress depended on both parties engaging seriously, respecting previous commitments and working towards mutually acceptable solutions.

Denmark Welcomes Progress in Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue

The Danish representative highlighted progress made during 2026, singling out the agreement on the Law on Foreigners as an example of pragmatic cooperation that could help resolve sensitive issues and improve the daily lives of citizens.

She also praised the continued commitment of the parties and the EU-facilitated dialogue’s leadership, saying that the results achieved so far should provide a foundation for further progress.

Calls for Implementation of Normalisation Agreement

Addressing the commitments under the Agreement on the Path to Normalisation and other existing agreements, Denmark underlined that Kosovo should move forward with establishing the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities.

At the same time, Serbia was urged to fulfil its own obligations and refrain from opposing Kosovo’s membership in international organisations.

The Danish representative stressed that responsibility for implementing the agreements rests with both parties and that progress cannot depend on only one side fulfilling its commitments.

Denmark’s message comes amid continued international efforts to advance the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, implement existing agreements and support the European integration of both countries.
