Security expert Nuredin Ibishi has expressed surprise at the international reaction to the closure of five parallel Serbian municipalities.
Ibishi says these are regularly planned actions that, in his opinion, should not lead to heightened tensions.
“It is strange that the internationals always react to something when it happens, even when it is legitimate and involves the enforcement of the law; it is a well-planned action. I think this is a legitimate matter, and there is no need to raise tensions or other issues. The Ibar Bridge remains a somewhat larger problem since it has been an issue of a 2017 agreement, but the others are sporadic issues that can be resolved,” Ibishi stated.
Regarding the overall security situation, Ibishi says that despite attempts by the Serbian president to apply continuous pressure, the situation remains stable.
“The security situation, in general, is calm and stable, despite those efforts by Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić, who is using every possible means to exert continuous diplomatic and political pressure while also maintaining a presence near the border with military forces and special units,” Ibishi added.
He also mentioned that “Lista Srpska” has lost its influence.
“I think it has lost part of its extreme structures within Kosovo, and Lista Srpska is no longer as powerful as it once was, as citizens are now free to decide their own fate without being instrumentalized.”
