Duda Balje has decided to join the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) in the Assembly, helping the party meet the threshold to form a parliamentary group.

AAK secured five deputies in the February 9 elections, while Balje’s party, SDU, won only one seat—herself, according to IndeksOnline.

Under the Assembly’s rules, a parliamentary group can only be formed with six or more deputies, which is why Balje joined AAK.

In a statement to IndeksOnline, Balje said she is very happy to have been able to help AAK form a parliamentary group.

“I have great respect for Mr. Ramush Haradinaj. They had five deputies. With five deputies, you cannot form a group; at least six are needed. I went to help Mr. Ramush, and for me, it is a pleasure and a great honor to be with them,” Balje said.

She added that the agreement has been in place since it was signed in the Assembly.

“I truly respect Haradinaj. He did not have six deputies, and I was without a group. As a sign of respect, I did not leave AAK without a parliamentary group, and I signed,” she stated.
