Prime Minister Edi Rama is preparing to unveil his long-awaited fourth government cabinet, which will shape Albania’s leadership for the next four years.
According to a reliable source within the Socialist Party (PS), Rama has set September 11, at 10:00 AM in Tirana, as the official date for the announcement of his new team of ministers.
This marks a departure from tradition, as the announcement will take place after the first constitutive parliamentary session, rather than beforehand, as was the case with the previous three cabinets.
Rama’s Criteria for the New Cabinet
The future of current ministers remains uncertain, as none of them have yet been informed whether they will retain their posts. Rama’s new cabinet appears to be guided by two main principles:
- Technocratic profiles – Ministers with strong technical expertise will be chosen, particularly to support Albania’s process of closing EU negotiation chapters.
- Integrity before SPAK – Rama reportedly aims to appoint officials with minimal risk of confrontation with the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) over the next four years.
Other Key Positions and Restructuring
During the Socialist Party leadership meeting on September 11, Rama is also expected to announce his choices for:
- Deputy Prime Minister
- Speaker of Parliament
- Leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group
In addition to new ministerial appointments, some ministries may be restructured, with certain large portfolios being reorganized into smaller, more specialized departments.
Anticipation Builds Ahead of September 11
As the countdown to September 11 continues, current ministers and new contenders alike are anxiously awaiting Rama’s decisions.
One thing is certain: Rama 4 will bring surprises, both in its composition and in the way it reshapes the structure of government.
