The families of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi have responded to an invitation from Kosovo Acting President Albulena Haxhiu for a meeting following the verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
Haxhiu invited the families to a meeting on Wednesday, but in their response, they asked that the meeting take place after the Kosovo Assembly makes a decision on the matter.
The letter was made public by Altin Krasniqi, the son of Jakup Krasniqi, through a post on Facebook.
In the letter, the families called for institutional responsibility and civic unity during what they described as an important moment.
“We, the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, call for institutional responsibility and civic unity at this time.
“We express our deep gratitude to the people of Kosovo for their support, solidarity and continued stance regarding the judicial process in The Hague.
“We expect responsible conduct by the state from the people’s elected representatives, in defense of the Constitution and the law, in relation to the Specialist Chambers.
“We appreciate the invitation from Albulena Haxhiu. However, in order to avoid any possible misunderstanding regarding family influence or interference in the decision-making of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, we expect to meet after the decision of the Assembly,” the letter states.
