A fire broke out early this morning, around 02:00 AM, at the “Sylejman Vokshi” Primary and Lower Secondary School in Deçan, requiring the intervention of firefighters to extinguish it.
The Director of the Municipal Education Directorate in Deçan, Besnik Hulaj, confirmed the incident and explained that the fire involved the school’s heating wood, though the cause has not yet been determined.
“Today, around 02:00 AM, the Municipal Education Directorate was notified by the school principal about a fire incident, which required the intervention of the firefighting units. The fire affected the heating wood of the school, while the cause of the fire is still unknown,” Hulaj stated.
He added that the authorities have been informed and are conducting an investigation.
“The Kosovo Police have also been immediately notified and are handling the case in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.
Hulaj emphasized that, despite the incident, classes will continue as scheduled, as the school has alternative heating systems.
“We inform the public that the educational process at ‘Sylejman Vokshi’ Primary School will continue without interruption, as the school is also equipped with heating through air conditioning units. Immediate provision of heating wood will also be ensured,” the Education Director said.
Finally, Hulaj thanked all institutions involved for their rapid response.
“We thank the firefighters, the Kosovo Police, and all personnel involved for their prompt and professional reaction, especially considering the challenging conditions and low temperatures, as they remained on site throughout the night,” he concluded.
