Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Fitore Pacolli has criticized what she described as the way the issue of the former KLA leaders being tried in The Hague is being handled.

Pacolli questioned how they can be defended in The Hague without fully functioning institutions and at a time when the country could be heading toward elections.

“And how do they think they can defend them in The Hague without a president and during an election campaign?” Pacolli wrote.

She accused political opponents of using the issue of the former KLA leaders for electoral purposes.

“Who are they trying to defend this way? Because they are not defending those in The Hague; they are exploiting them for their campaign,” she said.

Pacolli said that, in her view, attempts to equate the political fate of a party with the historical fate of the KLA constitute an exploitation of the war for narrow party interests.

“The attempt to equate the political fate of a party with the historical fate of the KLA is an exploitation of the war for narrow party interests,” the minister wrote.

She reiterated that she has been and remains opposed to the Specialist Chambers.

“We have been and remain opposed to this Court,” Pacolli stressed.

According to her, the best way to defend the KLA leaders in The Hague is to make Kosovo’s institutions fully functional and work together institutionally to defend Kosovo’s liberation war.

“The best way to defend the KLA leaders in The Hague is to make Kosovo’s institutions functional and work together to defend Kosovo’s liberation war, which was just and righteous,” she concluded.
