The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) held a meeting ahead of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, where MPs are expected to vote on the election of a Serb deputy speaker. LDK MP Arben Gashi emphasized that “constitutional obligations must be implemented.”
Speaking to reporters before the session, Gashi stated that the current blockade of the Assembly is not constitutional in nature but purely political.
“The blockade is not constitutional, it’s political. It comes from a lack of consensus, a lack of willingness to reach consensus, and a lack of political strength to form institutions. Everything else is constitutional maneuvering, this is not a constitutional deadlock,” Gashi said.
He further underlined the importance of adhering to constitutional norms:
“It is a constitutional obligation, but now we’re heading into the parliamentary group meeting to make a final decision. I think constitutional obligations must be implemented,” he added.
Today, Kosovo’s deputies are gathering for the sixth attempt to constitute the ninth legislature. The only item on the agenda remains the election of the Assembly’s deputy speaker from the Serb community.
The Constitutional Court, in its October 8 ruling, determined that the Assembly has not yet been constituted and gave MPs a 12-day deadline to complete the process, starting from the day the full judgment was published on the Court’s official website.
