Russia is amassing troops near NATO member states, signaling a direct threat, according to a German parliamentarian.

Roderich Kiesewetter, a Bundestag member and defense expert, told the ntv channel that Russia has deployed approximately 360,000 troops near NATO borders.

The former German military colonel stated that these forces include two military corps stationed in Belarus, capable of striking NATO countries.

Kiesewetter emphasized that, due to a war-oriented economy, Russian President Vladimir Putin is training hundreds of thousands of soldiers who are not currently engaged in the war against Ukraine.

He described hopes that the Kremlin would “come to its senses” as naive.

The parliamentarian warned that the years 2026–2027 could prove particularly dangerous.
