Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Gjuriq used the UN Security Council to spread serious falsehoods against Kosovo. He accused the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, of allegedly expelling Serbs and destroying the “Trump peace legacy,” a completely fabricated and unfounded narrative.
His claims of “systematic erosion” of the Serbian community and “arbitrary arrests” are inaccurate. Kosovo functions as a democratic state that guarantees minority rights, including for Serbs, and any attempt to portray the situation as a crisis is a propagandistic manipulation.
Allegations that Kosovo authorities have destroyed 128 institutions in Serb-majority municipalities or that there are ethnically motivated attacks are exaggerated and false. Public institutions, social services, and cultural sites operate normally, and the Serbian community continues to preserve its identity.
Gjuriq also seeks to stigmatize the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), accusing it of “militarization” and “buying kamikaze drones,” while every country has the right to ensure its sovereignty and protect its citizens. His rhetoric aims to present Serbia as a victim and Kosovo as the aggressor—a blatant distortion of reality.
Through his speech, Gjuriq attempts to undermine Kosovo’s authority, erode trust in its institutions, and justify Belgrade’s pressure and interventions in the northern regions. Local election results, which he uses for propaganda, merely reflect citizens’ votes for their local representatives—not approval of Belgrade’s rhetoric.
The international community must clearly denounce this dangerous rhetoric, support Kosovo’s institutions, and help ensure minority rights and genuine peace. Any attempt to manipulate facts poses a threat to stability and security in the region.
