Vetëvendosje MP Hekuran Murati announced that he aims to make defamation a criminal offense in the next amendment of Kosovo’s Penal Code, framing it as a personal mission.
Murati shared this statement on his Facebook profile, reacting to accusations from the head of OVL and UÇK, Hysni Gucati, regarding Murati’s family.
“I have already filed a defamation lawsuit regarding this matter. But these actions continue because the courts are not doing their job. Therefore, it will be my mission that in the next amendment of the Penal Code, defamation is included as a criminal offense. We cannot claim justice exists when such defamatory acts with serious consequences are addressed only through civil lawsuits and judgments come after many years,” Murati wrote.
He acknowledged the political dimension of such disputes but stressed that there must be clear red lines on what is acceptable.
“This is unacceptable,” Murati added.
