U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has stated that former President Donald Trump once acted as an “FBI informant” regarding the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

In a brief interview with CNN journalist Manu Raju, Johnson said, “When he first heard the rumors, he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago. He was an FBI informant to help dismantle this matter.”

Johnson made the comments while opposing a petition by Congressman Thomas Massie, who seeks to force the public release of the so-called “Epstein files”. Johnson described Massie’s effort as “baseless” and “unnecessary.”

When asked about Trump’s previous statements labeling parts of the Epstein discussion as a “fraud,” Johnson clarified: “It’s misinterpreted. He is not saying what Epstein did was a fraud. He considers it a terrible evil.”

However, Johnson did not specify exactly whom he meant by “informant,” and to date, no public document confirms that Trump or Epstein had any formal role with the FBI.

Background: Jeffrey Epstein, the financier convicted of sexual abuse, was found dead in his New York jail cell in 2019, under circumstances that continue to fuel conspiracy theories. Authorities ruled his death a suicide, but a significant portion of the U.S. public remains skeptical about the official account.
