Iceland Reaffirms Support for Kosovo’s Membership in the Council of Europe

On the third day of the Munich Security Conference, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Kristrún Frostadóttir. During the meeting, Prime Minister Frostadóttir reaffirmed Iceland’s support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.

In a media statement, it was reported that Prime Minister Kurti congratulated Prime Minister Frostadóttir on her new position and thanked her for Iceland’s unwavering support for Kosovo, especially in Kosovo’s integration processes into international organizations, including the Council of Europe. During the meeting, Prime Minister Frostadóttir reaffirmed Iceland’s support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.

Prime Minister Kurti stated that with democratic progress and economic growth over the past four years, Kosovo is an example of how development and democracy go hand in hand.

“During the meeting, bilateral relations and developments on the European continent were discussed. Both parties welcomed the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Kosovo and the member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), including Iceland, considering it as a very good opportunity to enhance economic cooperation and trade exchanges,” the statement reads.

Additionally, it was mentioned that Kosovo signed a Free Trade Agreement with the member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) on January 22 in Davos, Switzerland. This agreement marks a new chapter in strengthening ties and exchanges with Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, offering great opportunities for local producers and businesses.
