The Banjska Monastery will be closed for security reasons a day before the first anniversary of the killing of police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku. Security experts believe that the presence of security institutions should be increased in the coming days due to indications of potential similar attacks.

In just four days, it will mark one year since the killing of police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku in Banjska, Zvečan.

The terrorist group that carried out this murder initially took refuge in the Monastery of this village.

For security reasons, this religious site will be closed to visitors starting on September 23, as announced by the Diocese of Raška and Prizren.

TV1 also contacted the Kosovo Police, who confirmed that the decision was made by the religious institution itself.

Retired Kosovo Police Lieutenant Colonel Refki Morina believes that such decisions serve the political agenda of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

“Such forms of psychological warfare against the Serb population in the north, as well as against the general population in the north and other areas, show that the policy of the Serbian Orthodox Church is the same as before, supporting the war and genocide not only in Kosovo but also in other parts of the former Yugoslavia,” said former Lieutenant Colonel Refki Morina.

According to him, vigilance and the presence of security institutions should be heightened in the north of the country in the coming days.

“In these turbulent times, especially in the northern part, such groups should be gradually neutralized, as they are currently being neutralized group by group, to prevent any incidents, such as throwing a grenade or other actions that could incite fear among the minority Serb, Albanian, or other citizens living in northern Mitrovica,” Morina added.

In addition, the Minister of Defense has again raised concerns about terrorist groups being trained to carry out similar attacks against the Kosovo Police.

Former military officer Hysen Gecaj noted that these statements are contradictory to those of the Kosovo Government.

“When, at one point, it is stated that there is no longer any danger in the north, and sovereignty has been extended, and there are no more criminal gangs, but then another statement is made saying that this danger is very likely and potential, then something is off, these two don’t align,” Gecaj said.

The Special Prosecution has already filed indictments against 45 members of this terrorist group.
