The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the latest regional developments, including the attempted flight of another missile that was heading toward Turkey.
Erdoğan told President Pezeshkian that the violation of Turkey’s airspace “cannot be justified under any circumstances” and that “Turkey will continue to take all necessary measures against this,” according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.
For his part, President Pezeshkian said that the missiles that entered Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin and added that the matter would be fully investigated.
A ballistic missile, reportedly launched from Iran, entered Turkish airspace and was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
During the call, Erdoğan emphasized the need to open the door to diplomacy, noting that Turkey is making efforts to achieve this.
“While stating that Turkey does not approve of illegal interventions against Iran or Iran targeting brotherly countries in the region, President Erdoğan said that targeting brotherly countries benefits no one and that all such actions must stop.
Emphasizing that Turkey is being negatively affected by a conflict in which it is not a party, President Erdoğan stressed that the violation of Turkish airspace, for whatever reason, cannot be justified and that Turkey will continue to take all necessary measures against such violations,” the statement from the Turkish presidency said.
