Israel has officially informed the United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) that it is withdrawing from the body.
Reuters reports that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said, “The decision was made in light of the continued and unwavering institutional bias against Israel in the Human Rights Council, which has been ongoing since its inception in 2006.”
At the start of the Israel-Gaza conflict, the OHCHR stated, “There is already clear evidence that war crimes may have been committed during the recent outbreak of violence in Israel and Gaza.”
U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed earlier this week that he was withdrawing the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council, as he did during his first term in office.
