Natasha Kandiq, head of the Humanitarian Law Center, stated that if RECOM the initiative for establishing a regional commission for truth about war crimes were to be revived, it would fundamentally change the historical relationship between Kosovo and Serbia.
In a conversation with publicist Veton Surroi on the PIKË podcast, Kandiq commented on a hypothetical scenario envisioned by Surroi, in which, in 2026, new authorities in Belgrade and Prishtina jointly decide to officially establish RECOM.
“If this were to happen, it would truly change the historical relationship between Kosovo and Serbia. The scale of what actually happened would be understood,” Kandiq said.
She emphasized that despite Kosovo’s statehood being a reality since the end of the war, in Serbia there are still denialist terms used, such as “provisional institutions” or “so-called prime minister,” which continue to deny Kosovo’s political and institutional reality.
“We live in two separate states, and one day this will also be acknowledged politically and publicly,” Kandiq declared, adding that propagandist rhetoric cannot replace facts on the ground.
