U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, visited Skopje on Thursday, reaffirming America’s unwavering support for North Macedonia’s full integration into the European Union. Kasanof emphasized that the U.S. has stood by North Macedonia since its independence and will continue to assist in achieving its goals for a progressive, secure, and dynamic democracy within the EU and Euro-Atlantic community.
In a joint press conference with Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Kasanof discussed the necessity of reforms, particularly tackling corruption, and addressed other regional issues. He confirmed the strong and enduring partnership between the U.S. and North Macedonia, stressing the vital role of continued reforms in achieving EU membership.
The U.S. envoy reiterated that North Macedonia’s journey toward EU membership remains a priority for the United States, highlighting the benefits of integration, which include enhanced security and stability for the entire region.
