With less than two weeks remaining until the deadline, approximately 35,000 voters from abroad have registered to vote in Kosovo’s upcoming elections. According to data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), as of December 13, 2024, a total of 34,757 applications have been approved, with just under 2,200 rejected.
The CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, noted that the majority of registered voters have chosen to vote by mail. Among the approved applications, 8,942 citizens have registered to vote in person at diplomatic missions, 5,489 are set to receive and send their ballots via postal mail within Kosovo, and 20,326 will send their ballots to Kosovo’s postal box from abroad.
Elezi clarified that most of the rejections were due to applicants not submitting photos showing their identification document in hand. However, those whose applications were rejected can reapply by following the guidelines provided by the CEC.
The registration period for voters abroad started on September 1 and will end in less than two weeks, marking an important step in ensuring the participation of the Kosovo diaspora in the election process.
