The caretaker Government of the Republic of Kosovo has approved a decision to amend and supplement measures implementing international sanctions, further aligning Kosovo’s foreign policy with the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).
The decision was adopted during an electronic government session and concerns sanctions originally introduced in 2022 against the Russian Federation and Belarus in response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
The measures are aligned with sanctions imposed by the Council of the European Union and the United States, targeting individuals and entities considered to pose a threat to territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The sanctions include the freezing of assets belonging to designated individuals and entities in Kosovo, restrictions on access to and operations within Kosovo’s financial market, and a ban on broadcasting Russian propaganda media in Kosovo.
They also include travel bans for sanctioned individuals entering Kosovo and prohibit individuals and entities in Kosovo from making funds or economic resources available, directly or indirectly, to those under sanctions.
The decision represents another step by Kosovo toward closer alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy and its international efforts to impose pressure on Russia and its allies over the war in Ukraine.
