In a significant address at the opening of the 36th Regional Session of Europe of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, Prime Minister Albin Kurti expressed Kosovo’s ambition to upgrade from an associate to a full member of the International Organization of La Francophonie.
Highlighting Kosovo’s dedication to the core values of democracy, freedom, and multilingualism, Kurti stressed that although the country has made substantial progress, it still has challenges to overcome to gain full membership. He referenced the inclusive nature of Kosovo’s governance, emphasizing that 20 out of 120 parliamentary seats are reserved for ethnic minorities, showcasing the nation’s respect for diversity.
Kurti also outlined practical steps to address declining interest in French language education across the country. He proposed partnerships with the newly formed French Institute in Pristina and committed to improving French language instruction, aiming to be fully prepared for the 2026 summit.
Despite obstacles rooted in regional political dynamics, Kurti remained optimistic, pointing to international support and Kosovo’s ongoing cultural and educational initiatives. He underscored the role of La Francophonie in strengthening Kosovo’s global ties and reiterated his admiration for French literature and arts.
This development positions Kosovo as a committed member of the global Francophone community, reinforcing its identity and diplomatic engagement on the international stage.
