Kosovo Police and the Agency for Information and Privacy announced the installation of a camera surveillance system in the municipalities of northern Kosovo.

Through a notification, it is announced that Kosovo Police is authorized to conduct preventive surveillance of public places using video and audio recording devices.

“As well as photographic devices to monitor public places where criminal offenses have often been committed in the past, or where there are reasonable grounds to believe that public surveillance would reduce the risk of criminal offenses and improve public safety in the future, in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure,” the notification said.

Therefore, according to the notification, based on the competencies of the Kosovo Police, the activity being carried out today in the municipalities of northern Kosovo is in full compliance with the provisions of the Law on Police and the Law on Personal Data Protection, which clearly define the conditions and measures that authorities must follow during the processing of personal data.

“Kosovo Police has consulted with the Agency for Information and Privacy regarding the processing of personal data through the camera surveillance system, and that this data will be processed for specific, lawful, and legitimate purposes, guaranteeing respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals. Every action in this process ensures a proper legal basis, and for this purpose, the installation of the camera surveillance system in the municipalities of northern Kosovo has been carried out in the presence of AIP inspectors,” the notification said.
