September 10, 2025 – Gjilan – The Kosovo Correctional Service (SHKK) has spent approximately €360,000 on a tender aimed at enhancing security at the Gjilan Prison, whose cells have been leased to Denmark for ten years. The first group of Danish inmates is expected to arrive in Kosovo in 2027, two years from now, according to Gazeta Online Reporteri.net.
The procurement was divided into four parts, covering:
- X-Ray DV scanners for all packages entering the prison;
- Static hand detectors;
- Mobile inspection detectors;
- Detectors to identify contraband mobile phones.
The contract for the X-Ray scanners, valued at €121,985, was awarded to Tetroniks L.L.C.
The static hand detectors cost €67,000 and were supplied by the consortium NOVUS SH.P.K SCANTECH GROUP L.L.C, which also provided the mobile inspection detectors valued at €45,000 and the mobile phone contraband detectors for €124,998. In total, this consortium received contracts worth around €237,000.
SHKK also plans further investments in the prison, following recommendations from Denmark.
The first Danish inmates are expected to arrive in Gjilan in April 2027, as confirmed by Ismail Dibrani, General Director of SHKK.
This transfer is part of a ten-year agreement between Kosovo and Denmark, which allows Kosovo to host 300 Danish inmates. In return, Kosovo is set to receive over €200 million.
The Kosovo Assembly ratified the agreement on May 23, 2024, two years after its signing.
