Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, wrote on the “X” platform on Sunday that he is proud to lead the most democratic state in the region.
Kurti made this statement in the context of International Democracy Day.
He stated that the world has reached a high level of democratization but added that there is still work to be done, emphasizing the threat posed by authoritarianism.
“With more than half of the world’s population voting in over 80 countries across all six inhabited continents, the year 2024 shows how far humanity has come in realizing the ideal of democratic citizenship. And yet, on this year’s International Day of Democracy, our work is still not finished. Let us remember how hard we have fought to get to this point — and how much we must continue to fight to protect the world’s democracies from the twin threats of authoritarianism from within and aggression from without. As Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, I am proud to lead the most democratic state in our region and one of the fastest-progressing democracies in the world. On this special day, I reaffirm our country’s commitment to standing with our democratic partners and allies across the globe — working together to ensure that government of the people, by the people, for the people, does not vanish from the earth,” Kurti wrote.
