The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, opened today’s government meeting by honoring and highly appreciating the heroism of the Jashari family and their stoic resistance against the attack of the Serbian occupying forces.

Speaking before the government cabinet, Kurti emphasized that the responsibility following the sacrifice of the members of the heroic family is immense.

“Today we mark the anniversary of the most important event in our contemporary history – the Epopeja e UÇK-së. It represents a decisive turning point in our national consciousness and our popular unity toward freedom and independence. The history of states is built on events that open the path to the future.”

Kurti stated that March 1998 was such a moment in history.

According to him, in Prekaz, on March 5, 6 and 7, 1998, an extremely unequal confrontation took place, but one with extraordinary significance.

“In the annals of European history there does not exist a single case where, for three days and three consecutive nights, a freedom-loving indigenous family resisted a police state and occupying force.”

He added that for the Jashari family, only freedom had value, a freedom for which they sacrificed everything.
