French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that Russian forces had struck the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, describing the attack as further evidence of what he called Moscow’s hostility toward science and truth.
In a post on X, Macron said the institution, described as Ukraine’s largest scientific research body, had been targeted amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
“These strikes are further evidence of the Russian regime’s hostile contempt for science and truth,” Macron wrote.
He added that the attack came alongside what he described as daily strikes targeting Ukrainian civilians.
“We share the pain of the victims and their families. France and Europe will stand by the Ukrainian people, who are resisting with courage, for as long as necessary,” Macron said.
The reported strike comes as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, with Ukrainian authorities and international partners repeatedly raising concerns over attacks on civilian infrastructure and other non-military sites.
Macron has remained a prominent European supporter of Ukraine and has repeatedly called for continued European backing for Kyiv as the war continues.
