Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, stated that the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) has received support from the U.S. Department of Defense for the purchase of helicopters.
He made these remarks during his official visit to the United States.
“One of the main discussion points was the continuation of the weapons system acquisition. Starting in 2025, the Kosovo Security Force will enter the next phase of transition, specifically the third phase, which will require more advanced systems, particularly military support systems. This includes helicopters and air defense radars. We have received confirmation that the United States will support the Republic of Kosovo in building these capabilities.”
“Over the next two days, we have important visits scheduled that are linked to military purchases.”
In addition to the helicopters, the KSF will also receive a significant number of Javelin anti-tank missiles this year.
“One of the topics we discussed was including the Javelin anti-tank missile system as part of our anti-tank arsenal, alongside other anti-tank systems already in the KSF. We have received support, and it will be possible for us to acquire a certain quantity of these systems this year, with the full delivery of all anti-tank equipment expected in the coming year, as a significant amount has already been purchased.”
The Minister also announced that, for the first time, KSF will be deployed to the Middle East alongside the Iowa National Guard.
“We discussed the steps we will take with the United States to facilitate international agreements for the deployment of the Kosovo Security Force in a critical military operation in the Middle East. We plan to carry out this mission in cooperation with the Iowa National Guard. We also informed the U.S. Department of Defense about the progress made in the military capabilities of the KSF,” he said.
Additionally, during his meetings at the Department of Defense, Maqedonci was informed that FBI experts are assisting the Kosovo Police in the investigation of the attack on the Iber-Lepenc canal.
“At the U.S. Department of State, we were briefed on the involvement of FBI experts to support our institutions in the investigation. Of course, we, along with the Department of State, discussed that the final result will reveal the individuals responsible for the attack on critical infrastructure, as well as for previous attacks. We are waiting for the final results, which will provide accurate information, but I presented our suspicion, based on evidence, that these attacks were carried out by terrorist groups led by Radojicić.”
During these meetings, Minister Maqedonci also emphasized a strong commitment to supporting the Republic in the Adriatic Charter and, subsequently, in other structures, including NATO.
