Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has accused neighboring Finland of taking the path toward war with Moscow following its accession to NATO.

After joining NATO, Helsinki is preparing for war against Russia under the pretext of defensive measures. It is obvious they are preparing to attack us,” Medvedev wrote in an article published by the state agency Tass.

Medvedev, who currently serves as Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, also complained that new army units were being established in Lapland, near the Russian border.

“It is unclear whom these structures are directed against, but the fact that NATO has declared Russia an enemy makes this a concerning development,” he stated.

Finland, which for decades maintained a long-standing policy of military neutrality, joined NATO in 2023 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Its membership, alongside Sweden’s, was seen as a historic shift in Europe’s security landscape.
