Meta has announced that its Messenger desktop application for Windows and Mac will be discontinued.

Starting December 15, users will need to access Facebook directly to continue their conversations from a computer.

Once the shutdown process begins, users will receive an in-app notification and will have a 60-day period to continue using Messenger before the app is permanently closed.

Meta recommends that users enable chat history backup before the app is removed, as otherwise all conversations will be lost permanently.

Additionally, the Messenger desktop app is no longer available on the Apple App Store.
