Human rights activist Natasha Kandic has reacted to the Serbian institutions’ decision to cancel the “Mirëdita, dobar dan” festival today in Belgrade. She stated that the Serbian state aligned itself with hooligans and that in Serbia, there will no longer be room for debates on reconciliation. “With the ban on ‘Mirëdita, dobar dan,’ Serbia and its institutions aligned themselves with hooligans and the darkness of extreme ethnonationalism. In Serbia, there can no longer be a debate on reconciliation or protests against the glorification of criminals. It is a black hole,” she wrote on X. Earlier, the Minister of Interior of Serbia, Ivica Daçiq, stated that he ordered the ban on the “Mirëdita, dobar dan” festival for “security reasons.”

The festival was scheduled to take place at 6:30 PM on June 27th in Dorqol Square, and a few hours before the opening, a large group of right-wing supporters gathered at the entrance of the area, waving Serbian flags. “Mirëdita, dobar dan” is held once a year, alternating between Pristina and Belgrade, with the aim of bringing the Serbian cultural scene closer to Kosovo and vice versa, to present the contemporary cultural and artistic scene of Kosovo to the Serbian audience. The event is organized by non-governmental organizations – Youth Initiative for Human Rights, Civic Initiatives from Serbia, and Integra from Kosovo.
