The head of NATO’s office in Belgrade, Pierluigi Lodola, has reiterated the demand for Serbian authorities to take concrete steps to bring those responsible for the 2023 attacks in north of Kosovo to justice.
Lodola emphasized that the Western Balkans remains one of NATO’s top priorities, reaffirming the Alliance’s full support for the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue under the mediation of the European Union.
“To move forward, it is important that Belgrade and Prishtina implement existing agreements. Both sides must show flexibility to make the necessary compromises. This is key for sustainable security in Kosovo, for the benefit of all communities and for regional stability,” Lodola told Kosovo-Online.
He described the dialogue as the only framework for resolving open political issues, with full respect for the rights of all communities.
Two years after tensions erupted in the north of the country, marked by violent clashes in Zvecan between Serbian protesters, Kosovo Police, and KFOR forces, Lodola also recalled the severe terrorist attack in Banjskë, calling for those responsible to be held accountable.
“We continue to call on Serbian authorities to ensure that those responsible for the violence in Kosovo in 2023 are brought to justice,” he added, recalling that following the escalation of tensions, the Alliance deployed 1,000 additional troops to Kosovo the largest military presence in the past decade.
