The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, alongside the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, the Director General of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, and the Director of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Petrit Ajeti, inaugurated the newly built Border Police Station in Izvor, Zvečan—just two kilometers from the border with Serbia.
The new facility represents an investment of €753,000 and spans approximately 3,980 square meters. It will house the Rapid Border Intervention Unit, which will be responsible for ensuring border security and preventing illegal activities that threaten the country’s safety.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that police officers will now benefit from dignified working conditions, which will translate into a higher quality of performance—especially in efforts to curb smuggling and other illegal operations.
Kurti also expressed gratitude to the economic operator, the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Local Government Administration for their outstanding coordination. He noted that the project was completed just six and a half months after the foundation stone was laid on November 25 of last year.
Statement by Prime Minister Kurti:
“Together with colleagues from the Government, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, and the Kosovo Police, we are here in Izvor, Zvečan, at the border crossing with Serbia, which, according to Brussels agreements, should have been an integrated crossing point. However, due to Serbia’s non-compliance with those agreements, it remains unrealized.
Today, six and a half months later, we are inaugurating the new Border Police Station here in Izvor, Zvečan—an impressive facility costing around €750,000 and covering nearly 4,000 square meters. It provides dignified working conditions for police officers and enables high-performance efforts in preventing smuggling and other illegal activities.
I thank the economic operator, the Kosovo Police, the Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Local Government Administration for this excellent coordination. And here we are today, June 9, celebrating the inauguration of a facility whose foundation stone was laid on November 25 of last year.
Congratulations to the Kosovo Police and to all citizens of the Republic.”
