The new head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Dirk Schuebel, has held his first meeting with Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu following the start of his mandate.

According to the EU Office, the meeting focused on Kosovo’s strategic objective of joining the European Union as a multi-ethnic and prosperous state.

“Achieving this goal requires partnership, a constructive approach and making full use of the opportunities available,” the EU Office said.

Schuebel, who assumed his post earlier this week, has called for the rapid formation of Kosovo’s institutions so that the EU can fully engage with the country and provide available assistance. He has also emphasized the importance of political responsibility, institutional effectiveness, reforms and the European integration agenda.

The meeting with Haxhiu comes as Kosovo continues to face institutional challenges while seeking to advance its European agenda. Schuebel has said he intends to work with Kosovo’s institutions, political actors, civil society, media and all communities in support of the country’s European integration.
