The United States has presented Hamas with a new proposal calling for the release of all 48 remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for an immediate ceasefire and the halt of Israel’s military operation aimed at taking full control of Gaza, Axios reported, citing a senior Israeli official.
Under the plan, Israel would release between 2,500 and 3,000 Palestinian prisoners, including hundreds serving life sentences for killing Israelis.
Following the declaration of a ceasefire, negotiations would begin immediately on the terms to end the war. These talks would cover Israel’s demand for Hamas to disarm and, in parallel, Hamas’s demand for a complete and final withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from Gaza.
The proposal also envisions that, if Hamas responds positively, US President Donald Trump would personally engage in securing the ceasefire until the negotiations are concluded.
