1 thousand 432 Albanian children who are victims of the Serbian genocide, were commemorated on the International Children’s Day.
In commemoration of them, the Student Group of the Faculty of Education of the University of Prishtina organized a peaceful demonstration on Saturday in Skënderbeu Square in Pristina.
In this demonstration, the local institutions were criticized for not setting up a memorial 25 years after the war, to commemorate them.
Ylleza Myrtezi, Students of the Faculty of Education said that they have gathered to honor the 1,432 children killed by the Serbian genocide in the last war in Kosovo.
She said that the least that society can do for them is that on these days they are commemorated and an obelisk is erected in their honor.
“Precisely today we have gathered to honor those 1,432 Albanian children whose lives were taken by the Serbian barbaric genocidal hand in the most inhumane and cruelest way. So for this reason while they gave their dearest that they had their lives the least we can do for them is to commemorate them and raise a memorial obelisk for them that their work and their blood never get lost”, she said.
Professor Nysret Pllana said that for 25 years in a row no sign of historical memory has been placed to commemorate these children.
“For 25 years, Albanians have been treading on the blood of our children victimized by genocidal and fascist Serbia. The very fact that for 25 years in a row no sign of historical memory has been placed on these children suggests that Albanians have a genetic defect of forgetfulness, and this is regrettable,” he said.
And Xhavit Muqolli, representative of the families who lost their children during the war, has asked the local institutions to establish a memorial in memory of these children.
“Today, on this day, the whole world celebrates, it is World Children’s Day, while we have come out to ask our institutions that at least we as family members, as parents, have a memorial where we can go on special days to give a flower, to let’s get rid of the country and the names of our children”, he said.
