The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has reminded the public of the two nights of terror experienced by citizens in the northern part of Mitrovica on February 3 and 4, 2000. During this horrific event, 10 innocent people were killed.
“On the 25th anniversary, we remember the two nights of terror on February 3 and 4, 2000, in the northern part of Mitrovica, and we deeply honor the lives of the 10 innocent citizens who were killed, including the elderly, women, and children—brutally murdered by criminal gangs instigated by Serbia. In this brutal attack, 24 citizens were also wounded, who remain a testimony to the barbarity of those two nights,” Osmani wrote.
She added that a painful reminder are also the 1,564 families, with a total of 11,364 members, forcibly displaced from their homes, clearly demonstrating the efforts for ethnic cleansing in this part of Mitrovica by criminal groups.
“These days are a powerful reminder of the resistance and the struggle to stay in their homes, but also of the need to protect the freedom earned through blood and sacrifice. Justice for the victims and the punishment of those responsible for these crimes remain a necessity for lasting peace. May the memory of the civilians killed on February 3-4 never be forgotten!” Osmani said.
