The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has stated that the Milosevic regime, which committed genocide in Kosovo, has raped around 20,000 women in Kosovo.

Osmani was invited to a debate held in Bulgaria by former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who brought together public and private sector leaders for a special meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), to address barriers to the advancement of women.

The head of the country said that despite the stigma, Kosovo has managed to build a support system that empowers women. “Because it’s so important that they’re not just survivors, but they’re survivors who thrive and they’ve thrived not only domestically, but they’re sharing the example of thriving and you know, turning pain into strength throughout the world”, emphasized Osmani.

She said that Kosovo has addressed climate security in this summit because women are those women and girls are the ones who are affected the most. Osmani said that peace is a prerequisite.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani expressed her appreciation for what Clinton did for Kosovo. “So let me take this moment and I know you’ve heard this 1000 times or a million times from the people of Kosovo to express to you the gratitude of the people of Kosovo to you President Clinton, and to all the American people for giving of the people of Kosovo only that freedom, peace and democracy”, she stressed, reports RTKlive. The President emphasized that without this we would never have been able to talk about economic prosperity for equality or simply have the opportunity to fight for it.

“So let’s join forces to help all those around the world who need a helping hand now, Kosovo, now is a thriving democracy, a thriving economy and a testament to what democracies can achieve when they together united against tyrannies and against genocidal regimes”, emphasized Osmani.

While Clinton said that President Osmani is helping to lead Kosovo forward and truly represents the opportunities that can be used by women who are not only well prepared and ready, but also in a context where their positions are recognized.
